Has potential, but imbalanced
First off, its a pay to win (P2W) game, so be prepared for that. However, the free play is pretty good and not too grindy at first. There are plenty of rewards and things to do to make your squad better. There are lots of daily missions, long-term missions, campaign missions, and special events to do. You can keep busy and get steady improvement for a long time.
But eventually you hit a wall and the only way to improve is to get more legendary and super rare units, which takes a ton of cores or spirit shields to do. This is still possible to do without money but the grind will be real at that point because RNG decides what legends you get.
The main problem with the game is lack of balance. The designers keep introducing new content and never balance anything. A handful of units are so OP that its nearly impossible to win if the enemy has them and you dont. This ruins the long-term value of the game.
